Ian's 2nd Birthday!!!

Ian turned 2 years old Friday! Mark and I sang Happy Birthday to him first thing that morning. I sent cupcakes to daycare so his class could celebrate. That afternoon he hung out with Daddy and the water hose cleaning the cooler.

We had his party Saturday morning. We had a pretty good turn out. I made birthday cupcakes (chocolate, yellow, and yummy red velvet), and we had Quiznos deliver party boxes of sammies to munch on.

The excitement of the day didn't happen until after everyone had cleared out. About 1:00PM Ian started coughing. It sounded like a barking dog or seal. When I went to lay him down for a nap he started breathing hard and labored. I called the nurse line for the pediatrician and they walked me through some things to watch out for. They suspected from the sound of his cough that he has croup. He was not out of character. He played hard, laughed, and carried on like nothing was wrong the rest for the day. That is until bedtime. He started breathing heavily and labored again. I put in another call to the pediatrician. I love the fact that Ian's pediatrician's group links to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta for the weekend advice nurse. She made a few suggestions and called back to make sure they helped to improve his condition. All was well until about 20 minutes after he fell asleep. He woke up trying to breath and started coughing and crying. I got him settled down and sleeping again. Then about 20 more minutes later the same thing happened again. At the nurses suggestion we headed to the hospital here in Duluth where we spent several hours. He had 2 breathing treatments, oral steroids, and monitors hooked up to his chest. We were finally released at 4AM.

Now I am going to bed.
